Lesson 176

3) The donkey

Once Nasreddin wanted to go to the market with six donkeys. After an hour, he was tired and sat on one of them. He counted the donkeys, and there were only five, so he got down, he wanted to find the sixth. He looked, and looked around, but couldn’t find it, so he went back to the donkeys and counted them again. There were six, so he got up and they rode on. After a few minutes, he counted the donkeys, and again there were only five. While he was counting, a friend of him came, and Nasreddin said to him, "I left home with six donkeys, then I had five, then six, and now I have only five. One, two, three, four, five." "But Nasreddin," said his friend, "you are sitting on a donkey, that is the sixth, and you are the seventh!"

Lesson 171

1) Two glasses of beer

A man went to a pub every day and ordered two glasses of beer. He drank them and then ordered two new ones. Once the waiter asked him, "Why do you order two glasses of beer, why don’t you have a large glass?" The man answered: "Because I don’t drink alone, I drink with my friend." But after three days the man came to the bar and ordered only one small glass of beer. "Oh," said the waiter, "has your friend died?" "Oh, no," said the man. "He's healthy, the beer is for him, I don’t drink anymore. My doctor does not want me to drink because it's not healthy for me."
