Lesson 197

3) Darkness
Nasreddin had a shed behind his house. There was no light in it. One evening he went there to get his ladder and lost his ring there. He left the ladder, went out into the street, and began to look around. One of his friends saw him in front of his house in the street and said to him, "Hello, Nasreddin! What are you looking for?" "My ring," Nasreddin answered. "It fell off my finger, it is a silver ring with a red stone in it." "Oh, yes," his friend said. "I remember, I'll help you to find it. Where did you lose it?" "In my shed." "But why don’t you go there to look for it?" "Don’t be stupid, it's quite dark in my shed, how can I find my ring there?" "Here, there is the light of the lamps on the street."

Lesson 195

2) The hat
One day a lady went to a hat shop. The shopkeeper smiled and said, "Good morning, madam." "Good morning," said the lady. "There is a green hat with red flowers and blue leaves in the shop window. Would you please take it out from there?" "Yes, madam," said the shopkeeper. "I am very pleased to do that for you." Usually, ladies tried on a lot of hats before they chose one, and he got very tired. But there he thought he would sell this hat quickly, and it had been in his shop window for a long time. "Do you want it in a box, madam?" He asked, "or do you want to wear it at once?" "Oh, I don’t want it," she replied. "I just wanted you to take it out of the shop window, I pass in front of the shop every day and hate to see the ugly thing there!"
