Lesson 219

1) The pot

Nasreddin borrowed a pot from his neighbour because he needed one for a feast. After the feast he brought it back with another small pot in it. "Your pot gave birth to a baby while it was with me," he said. Of course, the neighbour was very satisfied, and when Nasreddin came to borrow the big pot for another feast, he gladly / willingly gave it to him. That time, Nasreddin did not return the pot, so after a few days, the neighbour paid Nasreddin a visit. "What happened to my big pot?" he asked. "Why haven’t you brought it back yet?" "Oh, the big pot," said Nasreddin. "It died while it was with me." "Died," said the neighbour angrily. "But pots cannot die!" "Why do you say that?" Nasreddin replied. "When I said that your pot had a baby, you did not say that pots cannot give birth, did you?"
