An employee always working very hard and being usually very punctual, arrived at his office very late one morning. He had bruises on his face, a scratch on one of his lips, sticking plaster on his left wrist and thumb and a bandage on his right shoulder. He had also injured his knees, ankles and some of his toes. The office manager not being a patient man had been waiting for the employee because he wanted to give him some important work. When he finally saw him coming, he said angrily, "You're an hour late, Miller." "I know, sir," replied the clerk politely, "I am very sorry. My flat is on the eighth floor and just before I left home this morning, when I closed one of the windows, I slipped and fell out." "Well," replied the office manager coldly, "did that take you an hour?"
