1) Alone in a small flat

Mrs Miller living alone in a small flat was old and did not like noise. Therefore, she was very pleased when the young couple who lived above her moved out. A new, young man moving in Mrs Miller thought him looking very calm to her. However, at three o'clock the next morning Mrs Miller was woken by the barking of a dog. Never having heard such a thing in the house before, she thought the dog had to belong to the new inhabitant. Therefore, calling him she said a few bad things about him and the dog, and hung up the phone before he could answer. Nothing else happened until three o'clock the next morning. Then Mrs Miller's telephone rang. And picking up the phone, a man's voice said, "I am the resident above you and calling you to tell you that I have no dog," and hung up before she could answer.
