Lesson 230

1) Nasreddin and the door

Once, when Nasreddin was still a boy, his mother left the house to go shopping. Before she left, she told him to stay by the door all the time and watch it constantly, because there were a lot of thieves in town. Nasreddin sat down next to the door observing it. After an hour one of his uncles came to ask where his mother was. Nasreddin told him she was shopping at the market. The uncle announced he would visit her that evening and Nasreddin should seek his mother to tell her. Nasreddin thought for a long time how to solve the problem. Finally, he lifted the door from its hinges, took it on his back, and went to look for his mother.
