Lesson 298

1) An old woman An old woman lived alone in her house because her husband had died. Once she fell down the stairs, injuring her left leg very badly. She called her sister, who came to take her to the doctor by car. The doctor having cleaned the wound bandaged it. He then told the old lady that her leg had to be spared for some time and she was not supposed to walk up and down the stairs for some weeks. The woman visited the doctor every week for about a month, and then he told her that her leg was well again. "That's very good," the old woman said happily. "I hate the daily climbing up and down on the rainwater drainpipe to my bedroom."
