3)
Mr Miller in a small town
Mr
Miller found work in a small town, and he and his wife sold their house in
London and bought one in the new city. Mr Miller went to work every day with
some of his new neighbours by bus. Last month he was on the bus, and one of
his new neighbours in front of him. Mr Miller said to him, "One of my
teeth hurts a lot. Is there a good dentist here?" "You don’t need a
dentist," answered the neighbour. "One of my teeth also hurt a lot
yesterday, but my wife put her arms around me and kissed me, and the toothache
had gone. Go and try it!" Mr Miller got up. "Great," he said
happily. "Where is your wife now?"

2)
John is a student
John
is a student at the university. He loves modern music. In October last year,
he suggested to some of his friends to form a music band, and they would play
in his parents' living room every night because they would not be at home
because they worked in a hotel. John and his friends went to his house every
night and played their music. But they played very badly, and the neighbours
always shouted and wanted them to stop. Then John closed the windows and he and
his friends kept playing. However, last June, John opened a window, stuck his
head out, listened and then said to his friends, "We play better! The
neighbours want us to turn off the radio."

1)
John Miller was an artist
John
Miller was an artist painting very contemporary pictures - blue squares and
yellow circles, red sheep and green skies ............. In December last
year, there was an exhibition of his paintings in our village hall. The
exhibition lasted a week and a large book with two questions lay on a table
by the door: "Why did you come to this exhibition? Which of the pictures
did you like best?" Every evening John took the book and read the
answers of the visitors. The weather was not very good that Saturday and it
rained a lot. That evening too John looked into the book by the door of the
hall, and read the answers of a lady to his two questions. They were: "I
don’t like any of the pictures, I have come to the exhibition because it
started to rain, and I don’t have an umbrella with me."

3)
The barber
Mr
Smith went to the barber every month to have his hair cut. He sometimes took
his little son John with him. John then sat in a chair and looked at
magazines while his father's hair was cut. At those times, the barber did not
cut John's hair because of Mrs Smith always doing it at home. Then one day,
Mr Smith told his wife their son being already five years old, the barber
would cut his hair the next time. So he took John with him, and the barber
first cut Mr Smith's hair. Then he put John on the chair asking: "How do
you want to have your hair cut, young man?" "Like my
father's," John answered, "with a hole in the middle."
