3) Not a very good student

Tom was sixteen years old and not very good at school. He always sat on a bench far in the back of the class and often fell asleep during lessons because of staying up late every night. One of the teachers was Mrs Smith. One day during class, Tom was sleeping again, and she went to his bench to wake him up. "You can sleep during my lessons, Tom," she said to him, "but please say ‘good night’ to me." On another day, Tom arrived at school very late, and Mrs Smith said to him, "Why are you late, Tom?" "I did not wake up in time," Tom replied. "Oh," said Mrs Smith, "Do you sleep at home too?"

2) The doorman

Tom was the doorman of an office building in a big city. Every day thousands of people passed by his entrance and many of them stopped to ask him to tell them the exact time. After a few months, Tom said to himself he would go to a store, buy a big clock and then hang it up at the office building’s entrance. He bought a clock and hung it up. He happily thought people would stop asking him about the time. But after that, every day a lot of people stopped, looked at the clock and turned to Tom: "Does the clock show the correct time?"
