2)
The big fat woman and her small thin husband
There
was once a big fat woman who had a small, thin husband. Having a job in a
large company he received his weekly wage every Friday night. As soon as him
getting home, his wife made him give her all his money, and then she used to
give him back only as much as to buy his daily lunch at the office. One day
the little man coming home was very excited, he hurried into the living room.
His wife was listening to the radio and eating chocolate there. "You'll
never guess what happened to me today, sweetheart," he said. He waited a
few seconds before adding, "I won ten thousand euros in the
lottery." "That's wonderful," his wife said delightedly. But
having thought for a few seconds she added angrily, "But wait a moment!
How could you afford to buy the lottery ticket?"

1)
Two sailors and the donkey
Two
sailors having just finished a long journey went home to their village and
decided to have a drink in the local pub there. Having drunk enough, they
went out into the street to look for something funny, but it being a very
quiet place nothing interesting ever happened there. So they could not find
anything. However, as standing in the market square in front of the pub, they
saw a village boy coming slowly towards them. He was leading a donkey on a
rope. Therefore, the sailors decided to make a joke with him. "Hello,"
said one of the sailors to the boy, "why does your brother have to carry
a rope around his neck when he goes for a walk with you?" "To stop
him joining the navy," the boy replied immediately.

5)
John was not a very good pupil
John
was ten years old. He was not a very good pupil and did not like doing
homework because he preferred doing other things in his free time. Often he
did not do any homework at all, and when he did, there were always many
mistakes. One day, however, his math teacher saw that John had solved all the
tasks correctly. Being very satisfied and quite surprised, he called John to
his desk and said to him, "You did all your homework right this time,
John. What happened? Did your father help you?" Normally, John's father
did help him with his homework, but the night before, he had not been able to
because he had to stay in the office. So John replied, "No, he didn’t
because he was busy last night, so I had to do it all myself."

4)
Twenty euros
John
and Tim worked for the same company. One day John lent Tim twenty euros, but
then Tim left the company and moved to another town without giving back John
his twenty euros. Not having seen Tim for a year John heard from another
friend that Tim was in town and staying at a downtown hotel. John went to see
him there late in the evening. He found out Tim's room number from the clerk
at desk downstairs and went up to find him. Having got there, he saw Tim's
shoes outside the door waiting to be cleaned. He thought that Tim had to be /
was in the room and knocked. There was no answer. He knocked again. Then he
said, "I know you're in, Tim, your shoes are out here." "I
went out in my slippers," answered a voice from inside the room.
