2) At the beginning of the First
World War
At the beginning of the First
World War, John Robinson went with a lot
of other men to France, and served as a soldier in the army in a cold, wet and muddy camp. The
rain came into his tent, there was mud and water on the floor, and the food
was bad. Then he was promoted to officer and the army sent him to Paris. He
had a very pleasant life there in a warm house, had very good food and was in
a good mood. After a few months he met one of his acquaintances from the
camp. "You made a big mistake when you left our camp," said the
soldier. "Oh," said John Robinson. "Why?" "Well, the
week after you left us, wooden floors were laid in the tents!"
