Lesson 324

2) Tom and Jim Tom and Jim were little boys. They were brothers and often quarrelled. Once their mother told them to play in the garden while she was going to cook lunch. They played in the garden for an hour and then their mother heard something strange. She thought by herself: "Somebody must have smashed a window." Then Tom ran into the kitchen. He was older than Jim. "Mother," he said, "Jim broke a window in Mrs Smith's house." Mrs Smith was one of their neighbours. "He's a bad boy," his mother said. "How did he break it?" "I threw a stone at him," replied Tom, "and he ducked."
