A manager in a bank is like the officer in the army. Where have you recently worked? = Where did you work before? a year and a half = one and a half years the local police = the police in this city 1) For a week Tom Miller being twenty years old visited the manager of a bank because he wanted to work there. The manager asked him where and how long he had recently worked. Tom replied that he had spent a year and a half in an office in London. The manager calling the company in London spoke to the local manager. "Yes, Tom Miller was with us for a year and a half, but only worked for a week during that time."
