1) Run along rails
An old porter had worked
for the railway for a long time. One morning he was standing in one of the
big train stations in London, waiting for travellers to ask him to help them
with their luggage when he saw a small man running towards the trains with
his bags. The porter watched the man for a few moments and then the man saw
him. Immediately he went up to him and asked: "Can I get the train to
Manchester at ten thirty-five?" He breathed very quickly and sounded
worried. The old porter looking at him for a moment politely said,
"Well, sir, I would happily help you, but I can't answer your question
because I don't know how fast you can run along rails. You see," he
explained, "the train to Manchester at ten thirty-five left punctually
five minutes ago at ten thirty-five."
