Lesson 349

The film is very long. Four hours long.
First we sit two hours in the cinema, then we come out for half an hour and have a coffee, and then we continue to watch the film.
= This half hour is the half-time interval.

spectator = people watching a film in the cinema

One sleeps at night. = People sleep at night.

nearly always = in general / generally

rarely = seldom

People stand in front of a shop one behind the other and wait to enter the shop.
= They line up in front of the shop.
= They queue in front of the shop.

We queue in front of a shop and wait to enter. Then I can enter, because I’m at the beginning of the queue. = It’s my turn.

pull out of the pocket = take out of the pocket

He handed it to her. = He gave it to her.

I tell you a story and you laugh, because the story is funny / amusing.
I amuse you with a funny story.

I think the story is funny. = I find the story funny.
