Lesson 342

He bows when he greets somebody.

buenos días = good morning in Spanish

Spaniard = Spanish man

1) Buenos días

John Miller was on holiday in Spain. He did not speak Spanish. The first morning, him sitting down at his table in the dining room of his hotel, another man greeted him with "Buenos días," and bowed. John said to himself that this had to be his name. Bowing he replied with "John Miller". The next morning the same man bowing again greeted him with "Buenos días", and John answered with "John Miller". The waiter spoke a little English, and after breakfast he told John that "Buenos días" was not the name of this guest, but "Good morning" in Spanish. "The next morning, John bowing greeted the Spanish gentleman with" Buenos días. The Spaniard looking up smiled happily, because John had now learned some Spanish, and answered "John Miller."
